PROGRAM

The RONN OWENS Program

Monday April 9, 2007

9am--

Ronn engaged listeners in a heated discussion this morning regarding the British soliders who were recently released from Iranian custody.  Ronn says the armchair quarterbacks are sitting in judgement of the former hostages for making a propaganda video apoloziging for intruding into Iranian waters.  Ronn asks-- what would you do if you had a gun pointed at your head AND you were looking downt he barrel of  seven years in an Iranian prison for not cooperating?

10am--

IRS spokesman, Jesse Weller joins Ronn this hour to answer all of your tax questions.  Mr. Weller advises all of us to claim the phone tax credit!

11am--

An op-ed piece which appeared in today's SF Chronicle puts a different spin on the the Middle East crisis and putting women in combat.  One of the British soldiers captured by Iran was a woman who had a 3 year old child at home.

Tuesday April 10, 2007

9am--

Ronn resisted discussing the Don Imus "foot-in-mouth" comment regarding the Rutgers women's basketball team.. but the media storm and today's press conference held by the team made it hard to resist.  Ronn asked listeners whether Imus should be punished.. and whether "punishment" is effective for someone of Imus's status anyway.

10am--

The Metropolitian Transportation Chief, Nat Ford chatted with Ronn this hour to talk about all of the changes coming down the SF transit pipeline.  Speaking of change, many callers wanted to know why there were so many "commercial" yellow zone meters in downtown that are used by very few... but not enough regular parking meters for the "non-commercial" cars and people trying to conduct business downtown.  If you want to buy one of those new parking cards to eliminate the need to search for coins to plug the meters-- hit this site:  www.sfmta.com

Also-- Tuesday is new DVD release day and Tim Sika and Ronn discussed three new videos which are now available.  click on: www.celluloiddreams.net for more information.

11am--

Do you know what your tween or teen is doing on line?  Well there is a new book out there to help you deciper the new world of Myspace, IM, blogging, cell phones and all the other cyber/tech activities that are taking up so much of your child's time..  It's like they are speaking another language!  Our guest this hour is Anastasia Goodstein, the author of a book called "Totally Wired: What Teens and Tweens are Really Doing Online".  you can also find out more at:  www.ypulse.com.

Wednesday April 11, 2007

9am--

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D) San Francisco chatted with Ronn this morning.  She just arrived back in the Bay Area after her controversial trip to Syria and the Middle East to meet with leaders who are said to be enemies of the U.S.  Pelosi discussed why she made the trip and if it made a difference.  Ronn and Pelosi also discussed the contentious stand-off between Congress and The Bush Administration.

10am--

The charges levied against three Duke Lacrosse players are expected to be dropped today.  That's after they were wrongfully accused of raping a stripper at a party on their campus.  Apparently the accuser lied and she changed her story several times yet the case turned into a media circus (surprised?).  The young men were tried inthe court of public opinion and even though charges have been dropped, the young men will never be able to fully restore their reputation becuase of the internet and all of the media coverage.  Ronn asks-- Is the British system of justice better than ini the U.S.?  In Britian, Ronn says the accused's name and information is not printed or released by the media until they are convicted of the crime.

11am--

Ronn talked business this hour with KGO's business reporter, Lynn Jimenez.  They discussed everything from the job market, oil prices and predatory lending and what it means for future homebuyers.  Lynn says, if you have a so-called "liar's loan" get out of it asap because once it balloons you could be in BIG trouble.
