PERSONALITIES

Jon Bristow

Jon Bristow knew he'd made it in the radio business when he came to work for KGO NEWSTALK AM 810. "I always had the feeling that my Aunt Lee, a hard-core KGO Radio listener, never thought much of my career in radio until I came to KGO. I guess I finally made her happy!"

Jon joined KGO in1988, first as a contributing reporter while working for another station in the Bay Area. In 1989, he was hired away by KGO exclusively as a reporter, and soon became the primary fill-in anchor on the KGO Morning and Afternoon News. Later he was made co-anchor on the KGO Noon News.

Jon has been recognized with awards for reporting and anchoring at KGO, including an Associated Press award for Best Newscast in California.

Before joining KGO, Jon handled news anchoring duties at other local stations, including KSAN, KBAY, and KKIS. He’s been fortunate to spend his entire career in the Bay Area.

A graduate of San Francisco State University with a B.A. in broadcast communications, Jon began his career in radio just after graduation from Sonoma Valley High School. At age 17, he was hired by KZST in Santa Rosa as a weekend announcer. "Everyone in high school told me I had a great voice for radio," says Jon. “Little did they know that’s what I already had planned. I always loved listening to far away radio stations at night -- I'm a radio junkie. I had dreamt of becoming a pro athlete, but reality eventually set in, and broadcasting seemed like a good way to be around sports and do something I liked."

An Oakland native, Jon grew up in Contra Costa County and Sonoma. He is happily single, and currently lives in San Francisco.
