Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives:
Initiative: Internship Program
The Employment Unit has an internship program, designed to assist members of the community to acquire skills needed for broadcast employment. The Employment Unit advertises internships one semester in advance through postings with local colleges and universities, AWRT (Association of Women in Radio and Television), and STAR Organization (a networking group dedicated to Media Public Relations and Marketing). All internships are one semester long (Fall, Spring, Summer) and are unpaid, though interns receive academic credit. Internships are reserved for students with Junior or Senior standing, and consideration will be given to sophomores. All internships must be approved in advance by each intern’s school Counselor, Dean, or Internship Coordinator. All internships are within the KGO and KSFO Radio Marketing Department. Students are exposed to Sales, Traffic, News, Programming and Engineering.
A Marketing Department employee closely monitors the internships. This employee maintains contact with the student’s academic supervisor, usually at mid-semester and at the conclusion of the internship. Interns are required to submit a paper or report to their academic supervisor at the conclusion of the internship in order to receive a grade.
Interns during this reporting period include:
Junior, Communications - University of California San Diego (July-September 2007)
Junior, Broadcast Communication - San Francisco State University (July-September 2007)
