Officer Seriously Injured During Pursuit
An Alameda police officer suffered significant injuries but is expected to survive after his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle in the city while he was pursuing a traffic violator Thursday morning, a police lieutenant said.
Shortly after 8:25 a.m., the officer, a seven-year veteran, was pursuing a vehicle after its driver committed a traffic violation, according to Alameda police Lt. Bill Scott.
As the officer was making a left-hand turn at the intersection of Harbor Bay Parkway and South Loop Road, his motorcycle collided with another vehicle, Scott said.
The officer suffered significant injuries and was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to recover, according to Scott.
The driver of the other vehicle in the collision was not arrested, but the crash is under investigation, Scott said.
